27 garbage dumps are officially operating in 92 communities located near Lake Sevan, as well as a great number of uncontrollable points for garbage collection created ‘spontaneously.’
According to the Urban Development Ministry of Armenia, these garbage dumps don’t comply with ecological and sanitary standards.
To prevent environmental catastrophe the Urban Development Ministry of Armenia submitted anew project for garbage dump disposal near Lake Sevan to the consideration of the Armenian Government which stipulates only 5 such garbage dumps.
These dumps well serve only as transfer stations, as the garbage itself will be taken to the factory of garbage recycling in Gagarin (in designing stage).
