In March of this year Armenian Government came into conflict with fish-farms. The Government requires that these farms change the category of used lands, install water meters, pay taxes, i.e. become taxable. In this regard, union of fish-breeders convened an assembly, where the requirements of Government were strongly criticized. Arkadi Gevorgyan, chairman of the union of fish-breeders stated, that fulfillment of such requirements will cause decrease in fish-breeding...
Nevertheless, this big fuss threw daylight upon the problem concerning to national security such as water resources. Artificial reservoirs where fish is bred are mainly located in Ararat Valley . These reservoirs need significant water resources such as artesian water. One needs only to dig a hole in order to set up a fish farm. It will be filled with water that one may keep and transfer to a concrete swimming pool equipped with drainage system.
Cunning businessmen used the soil of Ararat Valley as here lands have lower category. This business is a profitable one. Under the National Statistical Service, this is one of the most profitable spheres with 33% profit. The number of such fish farms has increased up to 294 within last 1-2 years.
