Armenia doesn’t have a single policy on the management of water resources, which are ruthlessly used: Ashot Khoetsyan, Head of Chair of Geography and its Teaching Methods, Doctor in Geography Sciences, Professor, expressed his opinion.

Presenting the problems he noted that Armenia is not using more than 20-30% of the Aras river for economic purposes, level in Lake Sevan is not increased, while an increase in each centimeter has an important significance for the country, the groundwater resources in Ararat Valley have been used irrationally, as a result of which Ararat Valley is facing a disastrous situation.

“Without having a sea, we are overexploiting water resources for fish farming. We developed fish breeding at the expense of the destruction of the artesian basin in Ararat Valley and development of desertification signs,” Ashot Khoetsyan said.

He also considered the current irrigation method as a wrong one. Under him,

A water resource management shall be developed, wide-capacity reservoirs shall be constructed, Sevan level shall be increased and drip irrigation system shall be introduced.
