From now on, water users will be able to find out from their Water Using Company (WUC) the irrigation regime of the other land areas supplied from the same irrigation system and their actual water volumes.
On October 13, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted a bill on making amendments to Law on Water Using Companies and Water User Associations, authored by Prosperous Armenia MP Michael Melkumyan.
According to the bill, law enforcement will identify irregularities, shortcomings and abuses in the irrigation process. The law stipulates that if the violations are repeated more than twice, the WUC Administrative Board shall deprive the offender of the right to join the WUC.
In case of being sued by the WUC Officer, this should be done in accordance with the law. It is envisaged that the amendments to the law will lead to self-control of irrigation water within WUCs, thus reducing abuse in the field, while contributing to more transparent and efficient water management.
