Discussion on Solid Waste Management and Water Supply Issues

Recently, an operational discussion was held under the leadership of Vardan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, regarding the improvement of drinking water supply, water supply and sanitation services in Yerevan, as well as solid waste management issues.

The meeting was attended by Levon Hovhannisyan, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan; Kamo Areyan, Advisor to  Yerevan Mayor; Aneta Babayan, Head of Yerevan Urban Development Investment PIU; Karen Sedrakyan, Chair of Water Committee of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure (MTAI); Davit Mkrtchyan, Deputy Chair of Water Committee; Marianna Shahinyan, CEO of “Veolia Djur” cCmpany; and Narine Avetyan, Head of Capital Projects Support and Solid Waste Management Department of MTAI.

The parties discussed issues related to water outages, as well as the modernization of sewage and stormwater drainage systems. Together with representatives of Yerevan Municipality, the participants also discussed the introduction of an integrated waste collection and solid waste management system in the Republic.

The meeting presented the measures aimed at implementing the integrated system in the three waste collection zones of the country, as approved by Government Decree No. 143-N dated February 13, 2025. The Ministry proposed that the reform process for solid waste management in Yerevan be considered within the framework of the national program for the introduction of an integrated waste collection and solid waste management system.
