Major Reservoirs in Armenia Nearly 100% Full, Minister Says

Compared with last year, Armenia’s five major reservoirs are currently almost at full capacity. The Akhuryan, Azat, Marmarik, and Aparan reservoirs have reached nearly 100% capacity, while Lake Arpi is at 91% capacity, as Hambardzum Matevosyan, RA Minister of Environment, informed during a joint session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committees on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environmental Protection, and on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs.

The Minister also noted that the water level of Lake Sevan is currently 6 centimeters lower than during the same period last year. At the same time, he emphasized that over the past decade, and particularly since 2017, the lake has not experienced such a rapid rate of water-level increase.

According to the Minister, an analysis of the available data suggests that by the end of the current month, the water level of Lake Sevan is expected to reach last year’s level.
