Qaghtsrashen Gravity Irrigation Project has divided Garni community into two fronts: Garni community residents versus community head. Unlike Garni community residents, Garni community head Ashot Vardanyan supports the implementation of Qaghtsrashen Gravity Irrigation Project. In his interview with EcoLur Garni community head said that Garni takes 100% of water from two rivers for its irrigation purposes and Garni can't take water from the river section where water intake shall be carried out for Qaghtsrashen Gravity Irrigation Project.
Garni community is already experiencing problems with the water: the project implementers need to enter the land areas owned by different people in Azat Gorge: one of the land areas told EcoLur his land area was trespassed without informing him: 'They didn't even ask me whether or not it's permitted. They don't have any arrangement with me. They want to push forward their affairs by ignoring people.' According to community head, the contracts with land owners were not concluded, 'Some arrangements cost higher than money,' the community head said.
