Ararat Aarhus Center Coordinator Hripsime Sargsyan is beating an alarm that around 30,000 ha of plough land is not used in Ararat and Armavir Regions, which causes great damage to the agriculture. In general, not-used plough lands annually supplement with 8,000 ha in the Republic of Armenia.  Fish farms use the underground water resources in Ararat Region. The government installed water meters to manage the water resources used by fish farms; nevertheless, the locals are displeased. 'It's true that water meters have been installed in the fish farms at the governmental level, but this is not a solution to the question, as if the water gets into the surface, it will also stop.

It was possible to wash degraded soils with this water, which will make them useful for agriculture, which is, unfortunately, not carried out,' said Ararat Town activist Vahe Grigoryan in his interview with EcoLur.

As a result, fish farming business gets profit, while villagers get the thorns and stickers of the saline land areas.
