Under the data by “Environmental Impact Monitoring Center” of Nature Protection Minister, the pollution of the Shnogh River, Lori region, is classified under category 5, which means that the river is in the disastrous situation. “The water needs of the population in Shnogh and Tghout villages are mainly met by the Shnogh Village. Teghout copper and molybdenum combine is still going to be developed, but the Shnogh River is already in the worst category. The river pollution is conditioned by the molybdenum,” said “EcoLur” Informational NGO President Inga Zarafyan at the press conference held at EcoLur Press Club and added that 90% of the mines in Armenia are located on the drainage basins. According to Hakob Sanasaryan, the Chairman of the Greens Union of Armenia, “If the Republic of Armenia had a Chief Prosecutor, he would immediately stop the development of Teghout mine. When we estimate wastes and benefits, we can see as follows: under the project, after 25 years of mining the company will have net profit of US$ 406 million and will pay US $ 101 million as profit tax to the Armenian budget during 25 years. But I have estimated for two categories of wastes only that the company must pay US $ 25 billion tax to the state.”
