Vernashen Commuity, Vayots Dzor Region, is against the development of Gladzor polymetallic mine. Community Head Miqayel Baghdasaryan addressed a letter to Vardan Sahakyan, Direction of “Environmental Impact Expertise Center” SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry, which says, “In reply to your letter we would like to advise you that the development of Gladzor community polymetallic mine in Vayots Dzor Region has a number of negative impacts on environment. If the mine is developed, the irrigation water in the area called “Baylig” will be polluted, which will result in drying of grape and orchard trees. In the area called “Arkaz” community residents deal with cattle breeding and land ploughing, which is located in the mine area. We are proposing not to develop the polymetallic min located in Gladzor community, which will negatively affect the flora and fauna of the area.”
