RA Nature Protection and Soil Inspection Body found out that the Arpa River was polluted in “Mamarza” section in Jermuk community, Vayots Dzor Region, with the muddy water having generated because of heavy rains and flown from the land areas owned by “Lydian Armenia” CJSC.
Reminder: on 13 June Facebook user Shirak Buniatyan posted a video showing how muddy water was flowing in the river. In its turn, “Lydian Armenia” CJSC disseminated a press release mentioning that “the project is still in the construction stage and there is no production process. The heavy rain falling for several days washed away the soil from the surface of the water discharge ways, which caused the river water to become murky in that section. After the final construction of all mining infrastructures and water management systems, all the water touching the Amulsar infrastructures will be directed and collected excluding any uncontrolled leak, as it has been projected.”
On 16 June, a video was posted on Facebook showing that the Apra River had turned into red.
It turned out that Noravanq gorge is completely covered with reddish limestone and clay, which flowed down because of heavy rains and mixed with the water of the Arpa River.
