The first hearing of the lawsuit filed on the basis of the lawsuit filed by Jermuk residents and environmentalists against RA Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan took place on February 6, 2020 at Yerevan Court of First Instance.
Plaintiffs' lawyer Gurgen Torosyan argued during the court hearing that Tigran Avinyan should disclose the names of those who, according to him, are financed by businessmen in the mining industry.
Karen Karapetyan, Tigran Avinyan’s barrister, said in response: “The claim is not substantiated because none of these persons were mentioned in the statement (e.g. no surname was mentioned). In order to create a fundamental defamation claim, it is necessary that the defamation statement be directed towards a specific person.
