MES Confirmed Availability of Uranium and Thorium in Surroundings of Amulsar Gold Mine

RA Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed the presence of uranium and thorium in the vicinity of the Amulsar gold mine. Responding to the enquiry by President of "Green Armenia" NGO Temine Yenoqyan, the Ministry's specialists measured gamma radiation in various parts of the territory adjacent to the field and found an overestimated background of the natural dose of gamma radiation at a distance of 3.5-4 km from the mountain. Thus, according to Ministry, gamma radiation ranges from 5 microroentgen/hour to 115 microroentgen/hour. Thus, the data of the scientific expeditions by Gromov and Koltsov to search for uranium deposits on the territory of Armenia in the 1960s were once again confirmed.

Reminder: in 2007, geologist Petros Aloyan published an article entitled “Resource Potential of Radioactive Raw Materials in Armenia and Prospects for Its Development” in “Mining Journal”, N 6, 2007, which indicated Amulsar uranium deposit with reserves of 75 tons of uranium and 25 tons of thorium. The article also indicates the location of this deposit - 4.5 km from Amulsar Mountain.
