

Although a ban on catching whitefish has been imposed since December 20, 2021 due to the whitefish spawning season and measures are being taken to prevent whitefish fishing, its fishing in Lake Sevan and sale doesn’t stop.
On January 11, 2022, RA Police officers discovered two cases of illegal sale of whitefish in different parts of Shengavit administrative district in Yerevan. According to the official website of RA Police, two men were brought to Charbakh Police Department from Artashisyan Street, who were selling 83 և 180 whitefish respectively. The police inform that an investigation is underway.
As RA Environment Ministry informs, 11 cases of sale and transfer of whitefish were recorded in the period from December 20, 2021 to January 7, 2022, as a result of which 1320 whitefish and 1 trout were confiscated. Between January 4-7, 78 polyethylene fishing nets were taken out of Lake Sevan, which contained 55 whitefish.
The confiscated fish was handed over to Ministry of Defense, "Sevan Mental Health Center" CJSC, "Vardenis Neuropsychological Retirement Home" SNCO. On January 6, a fisherman was found while fishing illegally in Tsovagyugh community, on the shore of Lake Sevan. There were 10 whitefish in the fisherman's boat. A protocol was drawn up on the spot and handed over to the law enforcement bodies.
Reminder: in 2021, the industrial whitefish hunt in Lake Sevan started from May 14 until October 15. Then, on December 20, 2021, during the whitefish spawning season, the responsible government agencies began to exercise strict control to prevent illegal hunting of whitefish from Lake Sevan. Control measures will be carried out by the employees of Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body, “Sevan National Park” SNCO of Environment Ministry, RA Police, Gegharkunik Regional Municipality until January 15, 2022.
