This afternoon, fishermen blocked Yerevan-Sevan interstate road in Gagarin settlement as a sign of protest. The reason for the protest action is the ban on whitefish fishing. Due to the whitefish spawning period, whitefish fishing is prohibited in Lake Sevan from November 25, 2023 to January 20, 2024.
The fishermen demanded a meeting with Gegharkunik Regional Head Karen Sargsyan and Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan. EcoLur was informed by Environment Ministry that as a result of the explanatory work by the employees of Gegharkunik regional administration, it was possible to convince the protesters to clear the road.
