The Human Rights Defender Office responded to written application of S.O.S Khosrov working group, which demands to call back government decree on establishing Gilan Wildlife Preserve, and thereby to recover integrity of “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve.
In his reply the Human Rights Defender listed all three government decisions regarding to Gilan.
The reply reflects the attitude of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia, in particular that laws were not violated when establishing Gilan Wildlife Preserve, as the status of these land areas were changed, “Hovazadzor” LLC’s operation in Gilan was suspended and a working group was set up with participation of public representatives to study the case.
Unfortunately, the Human Rights Defender Office didn’t try to sort out this issue, what the flora and fauna in the wildlife preserve should be protected from, which protected territory has the strictest regime, what “Hovazadzor” LLC did, which obliged to implement a program on preserving and reproducing flora and fauna, and eventually, why the public was outraged when the company’s operation was temporarily suspended.
