Staff of Yerevan Avan Administrative Quarter Issued Negative Opinion on Metal Smelting Work Construction

A number of citizens from Yerevan's Avan administrative district wrote letters signed by hundreds of residents to Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan and Head of Avan administrative district Vahe Hakobyan, demanding not to allow the construction of a metal smelting workshop in Avan administrative district, and company to issue a negative conclusion to the preliminary environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Recently, residents received response letters from Environment Ministry and Office Head of Avan Administrative District. Head of Avan Administrative District, Vahe Hakobyan, informed the residents that he has a negative opinion about this project and assured that they will take appropriate measures to protect the rights of the residents in Avan administrative district to have a favorable environment for health, normal living and creativity.

On August 18, the residents received a letter from Environment Deputy Minister Tigran Gabrielyan, which says that the opinions and conclusions of the participants of the process, including those of the affected community, will be considered in the expert assessment process.

Reminder: on July 28, 2022, during the second public hearing of EIA application for the smelting workshop initiated by the company, the residents of Yerevan city opposed the plan of the representatives of "Copper" LLC to build a smelting workshop and refused to listen to their arguments.
