Tender for Construction of Waste Processing Plant in Yerevan Has Winner

“Today, we are announcing that we have a winning company following the tender for the construction of a waste processing plant. We now have a Chinese-Arab-Armenian consortium that meets our requirements,” Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced at the Yerevan Council of Elders meeting on 8 September.

“This is an important step forward because we have not previously been successful in this process. It remains a complex process, but we have reached an important milestone. We need to specify the scope of their work and prepare the relevant agreements and contracts,” the mayor said.

Sirarpi Haykazyan, Acting Head of Environmental Protection Department of Yerevan Municipality, added that the main idea behind the tender was for the winning bidder to offer the design, construction and operation of the plant and make the investment itself.

“In return, the city was prepared to hand over all the waste generated. This represents a fairly substantial contribution by the city. We are currently negotiating with the winning organisation, and a construction contract needs to be concluded,” Sirarpi Haykazyan said.
