Kristina Ter-Matevosyan, a journalist of "Ecolur" Informational NGO, became the winner of the "Coverage of Climate Problems and Solutions" category of "Climate Change and Women in Armenia" award ceremony. In this contest she represented "Impacted Communities and Civil Society Organizations as Participants in Introduction of Socio-ecological Culture in Energy and Climate Change Policies in Armenia" project implemented by "EcoLur" Informational NGO.
The award ceremony took place on July 26, 2024: the organizers were RA Ministry of Environment and "Women in Climate and Energy" NGO in cooperation with RA Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
RA Deputy Environment Minister Aram Meimaryan mentioned in his speech: “Climate change has a disproportionate impact on women, especially in developing countries. Women not only bear the consequences of climate change, but also play a key role in combating it. Their voices, experiences and knowledge must be heard and considered in the formulation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.”
According to RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan, the problems related to climate change, the strategic approaches of the state to respond to them were reflected for the first time in the strategic plan for the implementation of the RA gender policy. When taking actions in the fight against climate change, it is necessary to promote and consider the principles of gender equality, women's empowerment and participation, and intergenerational justice," he outlined.
Constantin Sokulsky, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Armenia, noted, “Our priority will be to work with various branches and departments of government to increase women's participation in the decision-making process. About 115 applications were received in the nominations of the implemented programs during the award ceremony.”
