On 2 December, Amulsar protectors handed to Acting PM Nikol Pashinyan a petition signed by around 3000 Jermuk community residents on making Jermuk an economic and environmental area and banning metallic mining in Jermuk community. The petition says, ‘In reality, the correlation of damage and benefits in the mining is not estimated, we are deprived of the analyses on its damage, but we have the bitter experience of mining cases in other places of Armenia. We don’t want to become a Teghout in Lori and Akhtala, Alaverdi in Syunik, already derelict Dastakers and Qajaran or Kapan being the first with disease incidence.

By issuing positive opinions to gold mining in Amulsar, the previous governments have violated our right to participate in decision-making affecting us, first, the largest town in our community, Jermuk, hasn’t been considered an impacted community till 2016 while after 2016 no proper public hearings have been held there after announcing it as an impacted community in 2016. Lydian company, as well as the representatives of the previous authorities, have neglected us, sought to disorient or intimidate us. We are demanding from the new government to respect the will of the people and thereby we are submitting this petition.”
