RA Gegharkunik Regional Prosecutor Rafael Yeritsyan responded to the complaint on the inaction of the police and Martuni Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutor rejected the appeal on the grounds that it was overdue.
Reminder: the residents of Astghadzor community applied to the Public Environmental Court to restore their violated right to water. According to the verdict of the Public Environmental Court, the damage to the ecosystem of the Astghadzor River, the impact on Lake Sevan, and the resulting severe social situation were recognized as an environmental crime.
After receiving the decision BHD/03/20 of the Public Environmental Court in 2020, RA Prosecutor's Office sent it to Martuni Police for the preliminary investigation of the case. However, on June 15, 2020, the senior inspector of the investigation group of Martuni Division of RA Police reached a decision to reject the criminal case. Astghadzor residents appealed that decision to Gegharkunik Prosecutor, who replied in writing on 06.07.2020 that Astghadzor residents had not submitted a statement about the crime, therefore, their complaint was not processed.
