The interview of Lydian International President and CEO with Mediamax NA:
…Under the latest estimates, the initial value of the project makes up US 0 million. In the course of the last year the representatives of 8 commercial banks from Europe, South Africa and North America, as well as representatives of three development banks, such as International Finance Corporation, a WB member, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Netherlands Development Finance Company...
- Jermuk Municipality said rather rude things addressed to your company. How would you explain this?
- A while ago Jermuk Mayor and National Assemble deputy from that town expressed certain concerns in regard with the transparency and the project impact of noise, dust and uranium on the mineral water. Though Jermuk is located 12 km far away from the project, on the other side of 3000-meter-high mountain, and our mine is not located on the territory belonging to Jermuk, we took into consideration these concerns and ordered independent international experts to carry out a special examination.
Under the examination, the project won’t be seen and heard in Jermuk, no dust will spread to Jermuk, the ore in Amoulsar doesn’t contain any uranium and it can’t have any impact on the mineral water, as the mineral water spring is located in the northern part of Jermuk.
… the only probable impact can be the fact that some of our ground works can be visible from the road running to Jermuk, about 10 km south to the town. To minimize this impact we will start planting 5000 trees along the road this very year. Then we intend to plant another 20,000 trees in the lower part of Amoulsar.
We have considered all the concerns raised by Jermuk Mayor, but he keeps on accusing us for some reasons. I’m not sure that he has read the results of the examinations we have provided to him. Though Jermuk is considered to be a remote region for us, we have employees from there; we make use of the town hotels and have founded an authorized committee in the community, which conveys us the public opinion…
… We have proposed Jermuk Mayor to hire a tourism advisor at the expense of our funds…
