Amulsar gold mine opencast development project was the main topic for the meeting between Natur Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan and the UK Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Armenia Catherine Jane Lich. As the press release of Nature Protection Ministry says, “…Ambassador Lich congratulated the Minister on the re-election to the office of Nature Protection Ministry and outlined the role of the ministry in nature conservation. “Armenia has magnificent nature, which I am opening for me just now,” the ambassador noted.
The UK Ambassador spoke about the gold extraction from Amulsar mine. She asked the Minister to support the investors in this project. The both parties outlined the need to improve the mechanisms to reduce environmental risks of mining industry.
Nature Protection Minister Harutyunyan particularly said that the further operations of Amulsar mine should exclude any impact on Lake Sevan, the catchment area of the adjacent territories and to ensure conditions for biodiversity conservation.
