As part of the Armenian-Czech civil society experience exchange, Gregory Malyukov, the Armenian Project Coordinator for the Czech organization "Arnika," Monika Yeritsyan, a journalist at "EcoLur" Informational NGO, Oleg Dulgaryan, President of "Center for Community Mobilization and Support" NGO, and Communications Officer Julia Amiraghyan visited the town of Litvínov in the Czech Republic.
This town was once a nature reserve, but after the development of the coal industry, the environment became polluted, and the town lost its reputation and appeal. As the industry transitioned to new technologies, many jobs were cut, thus leading to migration.
Today, local active residents are working to provide alternative development and green transformation for the town. At "Libuše" Center in Litvínov, Petr Globočník, the center's coordinator, presented the history and green prospects of the town to the Armenian NGOs. The role of civil society in the sustainable development of states was highlighted, as well as the importance of Armenian-Czech civil society cooperation in environmental protection and human rights advocacy.
