The officers of Jermuk Community Police Department received operational information indicating that illegal mining activities were being carried out in one of the plots located in the area known as "Yeghniki Sar" ("Deer Mountain"), as it was published on the official website of the Police of the Republic of Armenia.
"The information was verified, and it was established that a limited liability company had been extracting basalt rock for the past 20 days without the required license or permit. The extracted material was transported to a processing facility leased by the company, where the processed stone was subsequently sold.
On 8 July, while the illegal extraction was underway, the operator of a crawler excavator and the driver of a truck were apprehended at the site and taken to the Jermuk Police Department. The truck loaded with basalt rock and the excavator were secured at the scene. The relevant documentation has been submitted to the investigative authority. The amount of damage caused to the State, as well as other circumstances of the case, is currently being established," the statement says.
