The Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body initiated administrative proceedings following an incident on 14 June 2026, when heavy rainfall in Kapan settlement, Syunik Region, caused yellow-orange rainwater runoff from the site of an inactive mine located on the hillside adjacent to 10 and 12 David Bek Street in the city of Kapan.
As part of the administrative proceedings, on-site inspections were carried out, including aerial surveys, as well as laboratory analyses of soil and rainwater samples.
Taking into account the established facts and the presence of indications of a possible criminal offence, the Inspection Body submitted a crime report to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia, based on the materials collected during the administrative proceedings, as Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body informs.
