On July 22 Dzoraget Rivr became turbid because of heavy rain. Nevertheless, the reason is not clear, as it’s two weeks since Armanis gold polymetallic factory owned by “Sagamar” CJSC doesn’t work. On July 23 Stepanavan Aarhus Center Coordinator Manya Meliqjanyan discussed the river turbidity causes with the new administration of the factory and Stepanavan Municipality Environmental Department representative. As Manya Mliqjanyan writes on www.aarhus.am website, she expressed an opinion that maybe it were wastes left on the littoral areas from previous pollutions of the mine, which were washed by the rain into the river, but the mine representatives insisted that another pollutant appeared upwards the mine. The group visited the territories up the mine, but didn’t see any pollutant, however, they also observed turbidity in the upper part of the river. Thus, the river pollution cause hasn’t been detected, instead the mine administration has offered Stepanavan Aarhus center to visit the mine and the factory to see how the final cleaning of the wastes in closed cycle takes place obtaining clean water. Reminder: the previous administration of the factory didn’t permit Stepanavan Aarhus Center to visit the territory of the mine and factory.
