IAEA: Armenia Can Entirely Perform Commitments under Paris Agreement Due to ANPP

Thanks to its nuclear power plant, Armenia can fully meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) write about this referring to the results of new studies conducted in 12 countries. Armenia is one of the 12 countries where research groups have conducted research, as we learn from the UN official website.

Accordingly, the Armenian Research Group has identified the significant potential of nuclear energy to mitigate climate change in the country, provided that the problems related to the initial investment costs and financial barriers are resolved.

It is planned to establish a regional center for electricity trade and energy capacity development. The Government's program for the long-term development of the country's energy system includes a number of projects in the fields of electricity generation, transmission, unification and distribution, which are aimed at this goal. "Armenia also considered new priorities in the actions set at the national level, for the first time including nuclear energy in them in 2021," IAEA experts wrote, based on the results of the research group.

In total, about 30 countries have included nuclear energy in the programs submitted under the 2015 Paris Agreement.
