The perspective of construction of a new nuclear power unit in Armenia is ambiguous: the governmental program for 2017-2022 doesn't envisage any action for the construction of the new nuclear power unit. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that the short-term program developed in January 2017 by the Armenian Government says that the plan-schedule of the action plan for the construction of a new nuclear power unit will be developed in September 2017. The launch of the construction of a new nuclear power unit at Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is planned for 2018 and the putting into operation – 2026. The second operating power unit shall be taken out of service in this same year. The construction of a new power unit is adjourned because of the absence of financial investments.
