Armenian ombudsman is interested in a scandal around construction of a hydropower plant on the river Argichi.

To recall, the course of the most full-flowing feeder of the Argichi will be changed for the sake of the new HPP. As a result, almost 7 thsd hectares of lands belonging to 5 communities of Gegharkunik - Geghovit, Madina, Vaghashen, Nerkin Getashen and Verin Getashen will remain without water.

As Ombudsman press service told ArmInfo, the human rights defender applied to the Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration with written request to delegate the governors of Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik regions to give permission for construction of HPP, as well as applied to Armenia's Minister of Nature Protection with request to inform whether there is a positive environmental impact statement.
