Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E. Biegun on October 24 and reached an agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire.
“Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E. Biegun on October 24, 2020 and reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to implement and abide by the humanitarian ceasefire agreed in Moscow on October 10, which were reaffirmed in the statement issued from Paris on October 17, in accordance with the October 1, 2020 joint statement of United States President Donald J. Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The humanitarian ceasefire will take effect at 08:00 a.m. local time (12:00 a.m. EDT) on October 26, 2020.
The United States facilitated intensive negotiations among the Foreign Ministers and the Minsk Group Co-Chairs to move Armenia and Azerbaijan closer to a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.” Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs.
However, the Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire agreement. On October 26, at around 8:45 am, the Azerbaijani side fired artillery shells at the north-eastern battle positions of Artsakh, the Armenian Unified Information Center reported.
“Despite the new ceasefire agreement reached in the United States, Azerbaijani forces attacked in the south-eastern sector of the Armenian front line, and continues to shell peaceful settlements. In particular, at around 13:50, the enemy fired a "Smerch" type missile volley fire in the direction of Zardarashen village in Martuni region.
The defence Army is waging defensive battles to stop the Azerbaijani attacks and throw them back to their starting positions.” the press release of the Armenian Unified Information Center says.
This is the third violation of the ceasefire agreement by Azerbaijan.
