On August 4, 2022, RA Government approved the program of support for the consolidation of agricultural lands in the Republic of Armenia for 2023-2025. RA Economy Minister Vahan Qerobyan said about the project, “320,000 farms have about 1,100,000 plots of land and the average farm has a total land area of 1.5 ha, which, on average, consists of 4 plots. Naturally, we see the low productivity of agriculture under these conditions, and people do not even cultivate the plots they have. Today, about 50% of the arable land is cultivated, whereas the remaining 50% is either abandoned or remains uncultivated. Today we are offering a land consolidation support program, under which we encourage private individuals and companies to consolidate plots of land into larger land units in order to engage in higher productivity agriculture.”
The size of the consolidated lands is expected to be around 1000 ha in 2023, around 1500 ha in 2024, around 2000 ha in 2025. The estimated cost of implementing the project in 2023 will be up to 1.38 billion AMD, in 2024 up to 2.07 billion AMD, in 2025 up to 2.76 billion AMD. The following results are expected from the implementation of the project:
1) reduction of the level of non-use of agricultural lands by about 4500 ha;
2) reduction of the level of fragmentation of agricultural lands by about 0.84%;
3) increase in gross agricultural products by about 2-3 times;
5) increase in irrigated land areas by about 2500 ha.
