On July 27, 2022, RA Environment Ministry issued a negative conclusion regarding the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of Meghradzor gold mining project submitted by "Meghradzor Gold" LLC. The negative opinions of several departments on the intended activity served as the basis for issuing a negative conclusion.
According to the opinion received from Forestry Committee, 31.4 ha of the area requested by the company is located in forest lands, and the latter considered the operation of the mine in forest lands inappropriate.
According to the opinion received from Cadastre Committee, the requested area with an area ofabout 569 ha is combined with the agricultural and residential purpose of about 4 dozen plots/ Meghradzor villagers, community-owned and industrial, subsoil use and other production purposes, as well as the state-owned forest fund.
There were many other comments and suggestions regarding the EIA report,
- the costs of reclamation and the calculation of economic damage were incompletely presented, the information about the infrastructure of the extraction complex, the enrichment plant, and the tailing dump was missing.
According to the decree of TAI Minister No. 2018-A dated on June 21, application No. 02/12 filed by "Meghradzor Gold" LLC on 13 December 2021 for the extension of mining permit of Meghradzor gold mine in Kotayq Region was rejected on the grounds of not eliminating the drawbacks mentioned by TAI within 10 days.
