Six-Month-Long Ban on Export of Whitefish Fry Extended Once Again

The ban on the export of whitefish from the territory of Armenia has been extended for another 6 months. The decision to this effect was adopted by the executive at the government meeting on May 30, 2024 based on the demand for sustainable use of living resources and protection of biodiversity in Lake Sevan.

According to the rationale of the decision, there has been an increase in the biomass of whitefish in Lake Sevan in recent years as a result of the process of regulating the industrial fishing of whitefish in Lake Sevan (2668 tons in 2019, 2345 tons in 2020, 5348 tons in 2021, 4700 tons in 2022), which makes it possible to ensure the implementation of small quantities of industrial fishing in Lake Sevan. (300 tons in 2020, 300 tons in 2021, 600 tons in 2022, and 600 tons in 2023).
