On August 14, 2025, the Yeghegnadzor Council rejected the application submitted by “Meta Gold” LLC to conduct studies for the extraction of mineral resources at the Gladzor polymetallic mine. The decision passed with 14 votes in favor, 2 against, and 2 abstentions.

Reminder: the public hearing organized by “Meta Gold” LLC in Yeghegnadzor on July 7, 2025, was held in a tense atmosphere. The company, founded in May 2025, has no record in the mining sector. The hearing lacked necessary environmental impact assessment documentation, which led to public protests and criticism from human rights organizations. During the meeting, residents and civil society representatives raised concerns about the environmental and health risks in the event of future mining operations.
Following the hearings, Yeghegnadzor residents, on behalf of the initiative group opposing the study and development of the Gladzor polymetallic mine, appealed to the Minister of Environment, Vayots Dzor Regional Head Kolya Mikaelyan, and Yeghegnadzor Community Head Davit Harutyunyan, demanding the rejection of “Meta Gold” LLC’s application. The appeal stated that mining would harm the environment, endanger agriculture, winemaking, and tourism. The residents also proposed declaring Yeghegnadzor an eco-economic zone to prohibit metallic mining.
