Whitefish hunting is Banned in Lake Sevan

From December 15, 2022 to January 20, 2023, whitefish hunting in Lake Sevan will be strictly prohibited due to whitefish spawning period. Enhanced surveillance measures will be implemented in Lake Sevan and throughout Armenia. As RA Environment Ministry informs, the joint activities during the whitefish spawning period in Lake Sevan will start from December 1, 2022.

Reminder: according to RA Government's decision 1335-N of August 24, 2022, the term of commercial fishing for whitefish in Lake Sevan ended on November 20. This means that fishing for whitefish from the lake should already be prohibited.

According to Environment Ministry, 600 tons were set for commercial whitefish fishing, and 554.86 tons were caught for 2022.

Strict control will be established on all forest roads surrounding Lake Sevan.

Checkpoints will be located at the exits of the main roads leaving Gegharkunik Region (Sevan-Yerevan road base, Sevan-Dilijan tunnel, Sevan-Vardenis Chambarak intersection, Martuni-Selim mountain pass, Geghamavan-Varser intersection).

As part of the events, inspections aimed at preventing the sale of whitefish from Lake Sevan will be organized in the markets of Yerevan and Regions. Inspections will also be carried out on Lake Sevan and in other areas of "Sevan" National Park.
