Interview with Karine Danielyan, ‘For Sustainable Human Development’ NGO Chairman, Ex Nature Protection Minister
- The holiday season has already started. What’s the reference of Lake Sevan as a recreation resource to the lake problems.
- Recreation is mandatory phenomenon, but if to take into consideration water quality, the environmental situation in the lake, recreation can have negative impact on the lake if there not any appropriate conditions. These conditions are not complete here and in this regard, there is some negative impact of recreation taking into consideration that recreation culture is not developed with us: people don’t collect garbage after them, though all the conditions should be ensured in the recreation zones, nevertheless, very frequently we can see how much the shore is polluted.
- Lake level has evidently increased, which is really a good fact, but what are the problems arisen due to it?
- The most serious problem we have now is inappropriate preparation of shores before increase in lake level. First, the lake must level should have been increased, as it had lowered to such a level that could have led to the disturbance of its ecological balance.
I think at present we can’t say precisely no waterlogging threatens to the lake. Nevertheless, cleaning works conducted on flooded shored in June, as well as cleaning of forests found under water let us hope no waterlogging will be threatening to our lake.
