Yeghiazar Davtyan wrote on his Facebook wall that Martz River, Lori Region, dried out due to a small HPP, “The working HPP causes the river to dry out and fish population disappears in it. The Martz River is a tributary to the Debed River. In spring 2012 small HPP was constructed on the river, where it was planned to use 70% of water volume in the upstream of the river. But now there is no water in the river. The whole ecosystem is disturbed: no more spawning and migration of river trout. Meanwhile it is planned to construct another HPP on the upper section of the river,” Y. Davtyan writes.
The small HPP was constructed without any permits, illegally. Documents haven’t been submitted for environmental impact expert assessment, as Nature Protection Ministry informed EcoLur in May 2012. Despite alarm signal, the Ministry didn’t carry out inspections of this illegal HPP. And now people’s warnings came true: the ecosystem of the Martz River is destroyed.
Reminder (reference to the investigation of the Hetq newspaper): this particular HPP is operated by “Argishti-1” Company registered on the name of Seyran Darbinyan, Vanadzor Mayor Samvel Darbinyan’s brother.
