‘EcoLur’ Informational NGO has sent an enquiry on Teghout Tailing Dump to Valeri Mejlumyan, President of “Vallex” Company Group, which says, “The letter addressed by “Teghout” CJSC to Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, which was read during the discussion entitled 'Teghout Disaster: What Is Solution?” says, “The studies showed that additional geological and technical works and lab experiments are necessary to improve the sustainability of the dam of the tailing dump, as well as designing and issuing projects based on them. These are long-lasting processes conditioned not with fast operation of the participants, but the complexity and volume of these processes and works. As a result, the company administration reached the only possible and responsible decision, which is not to re-operate the ore processing combine unless the sustainability criteria of the tailing dump are compliant with the highest international and Armenian legislative criteria.”
In line with Article 6 of RA Law “On Information Freedom” and Article 4 of the Aarhus Convention, we would like to ask to provide us with the following information:
1. Whether geological and technical works and lab experiments are carried out to improve the sustainability of the dam of the tailing dump and what kind of projects are designed based on them?
2. Whether “Teghout” CJSC intends to construct a new tailing dump, if yes, please, inform us where it is planned to construct the new tailing dump, how many hectares of area it will occupy, what its capacity will be, for how many years it is planned and whether new tree felling is planned for the new tailing dump?
3. What is the fate of the current tailing dump in case a new one is constructed?
4. Please, provide Teghout ore dressing combine construction and operation plans, as well as Teghout copper and molybdenum mining environmental management plans.
5. Whether Teghout tailing dump has a safety passport. If yes, please, provide the copy of the passport and technical instructions of Teghout tailing dump operation.”
