'Industrial Pollution in Lori Region' conference will launch at 10:30 on 10 December at Ani Plaza Hotel (Garni Hall, Building 19, Sayat Nova Avenue, Yerevan, Armenia). During the conference, the results of the examinations carried out by Czech 'Arnika' organization, 'Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment' and 'EcoLur' Information NGOs in Akhtala, Alaverdi and Shnogh communities in Lori Region will be presented in the frames of 'Involvement of Civil Society in Armenia in Decision-making in Mining' funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The examinations showed to what extent the mining areas in these communities are polluted with heavy metals and how this pollution will affect the human health. For the purpose of carrying out examinations, the Czech specialists took samples from community land areas, riverbed, residents' hair, as well as eggs from households during their visit to Akhtala, Alaverdi and Shnogh communities in the summer of 2018.
The speakers in this conference are: Marek Šír from University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Jitka Strakova from Arnika - Toxics and Waste Programme, President of 'EcoLur' Informational NGO, Marine Nalbandyan from Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS RA, President of 'Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment' NGO Yelena Manvelyan, Oleg Dulgaryan, Director of “Center for Community Mobilization and Support” NGO, and Shnogh Community Resident Levon Alikhanyan.
