RA Environment Ministry (EM) is proposing a legislative amendment that will allow the review of the Water Permit (WP) based on the goals of human welfare, protection and improvement of the environment, and irrigation. The legislative package developed by the Ministry was approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia by Decision 784-A dated on June 2, 2022.
In particular, according to the draft law "On Making Amendments to Water Code of the Republic of Armenia", "WPs will be reviewed in the following cases:
1) in case of defining ecological emergency situations in water basins and ecological disaster zones in the territory of those zones;
2) in case of the need for water use from the same water resource according to the priority of water use (for the welfare of people, protection and improvement of the environment, irrigation), first of all ensuring the priority of drinking water supply and drainage;
3) in case of the need to recalculate the ecological flow;
4) in case of reduction of water resources due to climate change or anthropogenic impact.
According to EcoLur, in "Procedure for Issuing Revised Water Permits" approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia, it is necessary to include the applicants (claimants) requesting the revision of WP.
