Environmental Protection Inspection Body Informs Meghri River Cleared of Stones

“EcoLur” Informational NGO received an alarm signal from the residents of Meghri community reporting that, during the construction works of the North–South Road Corridor, stones had been dumped into several of the Meghri River gorge, thus blocking the riverbed. Considering the spring high-water period, there were concerns about possible flooding.

A photograph was sent to Ecolur, taken from the Meghri-Qajaran highway, near the section before reaching Lichq settlement. On March 3, Ecolur forwarded this alarm signal to Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body.

In response, Narek Davtyan, Head of Syunik Territorial Department of the Inspection, stated: “ The employees of Syunik Territorial Department of RA Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body visited Meghri community and conducted an inspection along the Meghri River. At the time of the visit, the Meghri River had been cleared of stones.”
