At the invitation of the implementing partners of “EU4Green Recovery” regional programme, the staff members of the Water Committee participated in a training workshop on wastewater management, as the Water Committee informs.
The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacities of representatives of the Water Committee of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Environment, and other relevant institutions by providing and discussing theoretical and practical knowledge on the requirements of both the former and the revised EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directives, as well as the steps necessary for their implementation at the national level.
Benoît-Fribourg Blanc, representative of the International Office for Water (France), introduced participants to the key definitions of wastewater systems, the fundamental concepts required for the development of a precise regulatory framework, the experience of EU Member States, and the associated technical and institutional implications.
The workshop covered issues related to the collection, conveyance, and discharge of wastewater generated by human activities, urban wastewater management, the development of a regulatory framework for the sector, and support to local self-government bodies in the implementation of that framework.
As part of the workshop, participants visited the wastewater treatment plant constructed under a state subsidy programme in the settlement of the Gold Recovery Factory (GRF) located Ararat Town.
