It’s already several months since Qakhsi Villagers, Kotayk Region, have to live in terrifying stench. “They don’t know where to go, they breathe in this air and water their orchards with sewage,” Sona Sirunyan is raising an alarm signal on EcoLor Blog Qakhsi, www.ecolur.org/blog. The cleaning station is not operating, so the sewage from Hrazdan and Tsaghkadszor Towns, as well as from neighboring villages flows directly into Hrazdan River. If in the past the river water used to wash away and take away sewage, now the river has grown shallow and doesn’t take away anything, while the sewage sediments in the territory of Qakhsi Village. In reply to EcoLur’s question, “Armwatercanal” CJSC North-West Hrazdan Section Head A. Sargsyan said they are aware of this problem, but the construction of a cleaning station will cost them 15 million USD, but “Armwatercanal” CJSC can’t afford these funds. In this regard, EcoLur calls Health Ministry attention to this problem, particularly what the situation with epidemic is in Qakhsi Village and neighboring villages, and what data are available on incidence of gastrointestinal diseases. Meanwhile Ecolur would like to ask Nature Protection Ministry what kind of measures are taken for “Armwatercanal” CJSC to perform its obligations on sewage cleaning, and particularly, whether the State Environmental Inspection has conducted any examinations and what kind of sanctions are imposed on “Armwatercanal” CJSC in this regard.
