The iron mine development in Abovyan is more dangerous than Hrazdan one. This viewpoint is expressed by Ruben Yadoyan, PhD in Geological Sciences. Accroding to him, the iron in Hrazdan mine is on surface, while in case of Abovyan the mine is located underneath the waters, “Our drinking water will get worse when they get to their mine,” Yadoyan said.

Reminder: “Fortune oil” Company has obtained the concession right to develop the mines in Hrazdan, Abovyan and Svarants.

The fact that Abovyan mine development contains more risks doesn’t mean that there will be no problems in Hrazdan. “If Hrazdan iron mine is developed, the freshwaters from Arzaqan where Yerevan receives a large amount of water from will get out of order,” Ruben Yadoyan said. The geologist wonders at the negligence towards the soil, “I met some of them and said you have many tools, good technologies, and much money: but it’s I who knows the country and not you. Nobody is going to ease our pains, they will pursue their interests,” said Ruben Yadoyan.

Under specialists’ assessment, in case of Hrazdan iron mine development the water group in Arzaqan will become useless, while Yerevan takes only 10% of its drinking water, and in case of Abovyan (Kaputan) iron mine development the group of Mayakovski group will become useless, while Yerevan gets 25% of its drinking water supplies from these sources.   That is the capital will get deprived of 35% of its drinking water due to development of mining sphere in Armenia which is recognized as a strategic priority.

Reminder: The Armenian Government intends to export drinking water to Arabic countries. But soon Armenia will face the problem of importing drinking water from abroad as well.
