At present the traces of tailing pipe breakdown at Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) occurred on 20 August not far from Kapan are cleaned out. In accordance with unofficial information from Kapan, special brigades cleaned out the tails poured out due to damage of the tailing pipe on the ground. Still no information is available about the range of damage. Under our information, on 21 August ZCMC intends to make an official statement, while the environmental inspection should draw up an act on damage and assess this damage. Our colleague, Chief Editor of 'Syunyats Yerkir' newspaper Samvel Aleksanyan in his phone conversation with EcoLur expressed his concern with repreating breakdowns of the tailing pipe.'We could eye witness during the whole day how the combine tails were flowing in the river. It's not the first time, such cases are not few. Unfortunately, nobody brings the combine to justice for consequences caused by tail emission. Even if the isnpection fines the combine, these fines are very insignificant and have imitational nature. The tailing pipe for a distance of 35 km needs continuous control and reconstuction and improvement works. The administration should take measures to reduce damage risks, which we can't see now,' Samvel Aleksanyan said. Kapan Aarhus Center Coordinator Ashot Avagyan told EcoLur that people in kapan intend to discuss this problem with ZCMC representatives and territorial environmental inspection.
