Republican Party Jermouk Regional Organization Board Chairman Edgar Ghazaryan expressed his opinion that the development of Amoulsar gold mine is impermissible in terms of Jermuk Town strategic development.

According to him, Jermouk mineral water may disappear or change its direction or its composition in case of regular explosions. “It can certainly put bottling at stake as an industry, which has a very essential and significant impact in the economy of the town,” Ghazaryan said.

Edgar Ghazaryan reminds everybody that any kind of mining in a diameter of 60 km was banned in the Soviet period. Even the factory producing dairy products and boiler house were taken out of the town. “Opencast development of mine just 7-8 km away from the town can directly jeopardize the development of Jermouk Town.  The assuring statements that explosions won't be heard in Jermouk Town or generated dust clouds won't get to Jermouk Town, to tell the truth, don't seem true to me. If sandy rain is falling in Armenia because the winds in Libya, why dust can't get spread, ” he said.

In September 2008, the Armenian Government reached a decision to declare Jermouk as a tourism center. Besides, the Government also approved the strategic development plan for Jermouk Town. “In 2010 the Armenian President was tabled a new development plant for Jermouk, and according to the new plan, it is planned to build ropeways in the territory of the would-be mine for the development of skiing sport.”
