The Center for Jermuk Development held a conference... The town administration, heads of operating resort and sanatorium complexes, doctors, lawyers, geologists, ecologists, geogrpahers and active youth tool part in this conference. Geotream Company representatives – the developers of Amoulsar mine refused to take part in the conference. Taking into consideration the importance of this problem, EcoLur presents the cycle of 'Jermuk and Amoulsar Project' video materials.
The first material presents the position of Jermuk Mayor Vardan Hovhannisyan and that of Jermuk Development Center Vazgen Galstyan.
Jermuk Mayor Vardan Hovhannisyan noted that all kinds of productions in the radius of 50 km, which may disturb resort development, are closed down. 'But here we have a mine, which directly contradicts to the resort interests. The composition of Jermuk water is unique. The competition among mineral water brands worldwide is rather high, and only one remark that there is an opencast mine next to Jermuk is enough to do harm to our brand. While here we have a mine, which can't be hidden or concealed. And we can't permit a come-and-go company to close our brand.'
He made an emphasis on town development program worked out together with Swiss specialists. 'The program is drawn up in the frames of government decision dated in 2009. When the Swiss came, they were surprised what a favourable climate we have in Jermuk. Unlike typical winter and summer resorts, Jermuk successfully operates during the whole year. While under our project, the development of resort zone supposes expansion up to very Amoulsar mine, in a distance of 500 m – 1 km.'
But the company arrived here and has been operating here for several months without asking for our opinion. How it happens that company warned small villages with a population of only 1000 people, but it didn't include Jermuk with a population of 6000 people engaged in resort and health sphere?'
