Amulsar gold quartzite mine can’t be developed, even if it is economically beneficial for the owner, as Hrachya Avagyan, Chief Specialist of RA NAS Economics Institute, Dr. in Geological and Mineral Sciences thinks. On 9 August at the press conference held at EcoLur Press Club he said, “Only gold is assessed in Amulsar mine: balanced reserves make up around 25,000 kg gold, but there are 24 other elements together with the gold, heavy metals – selenium, tellurium and beryllium. These are all hazardous element even in the forms of their compounds, while heavy metals are hazardous for the people, they cause cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Thus, if the mine is developed, we should say farewell to Jermuk as a resort zone.”
