No funding for HPP Risks!”, “Dariali killed 10! Who’s next?”: the activists were holding these and other posters opposing to the funding objects destroying nature, landscape and rivers, deteriorating social situation in the villages exposed to HPP impact.
“Teghout Support” civic initiative activist Anna Shahnazaryan joined this protest demonstration. “I’ve joined Georgian activists as a sign of solidarity, as in Armenia there is Amulsar project, which will be developed by the company, where EBRD is a shareholder. Environmental issues are important for me,” she claimed.
In reply to Azerpress and ATV journalists’ questions how she treats environmental problems in the region, particularly in Karabagh, Anna said, “The EBRD doesn’t fund any projects in Karabagh, while this protest is held for the annual meeting of the bank. In principle, environmental problem are acute everywhere and high attention should be paid to the solution to these problems, and not to earn money and to pretend there are no problems. There are stickers on my bag for the protection of human rights. These stickers are for the protection of Tehgout, Coalition Bank on Human Rights, which will also hold a protest demonstration tomorrow and raise issues of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.”
